New: Philmac PUSH – tool-free push-fit fittings for poly pipe

Philmac PUSH is Philmac’s new push-fit connection system for metric polyethylene (PE) pressure pipe, now in stock at Valve Warehouse Australia. There is no tightening, no chamfering and no lubricant – simply cut the pipe square, push it into the pre-assembled fitting until you feel it reach the internal stop, and the joint is sealed and gripped. Push. Done.

Inside each fitting, an acetal split collet and grip ring lock the pipe against pull-out while an EPDM O-ring forms the watertight seal, all housed in a UV-stabilised black polypropylene body suitable for above- and below-ground installation. One of the advantages of Philmac PUSH is the ability to disassemble and reassemble the fitting by loosening the nut, so a joint can be realigned, inspected or the fitting reused. The range is WaterMark certified, pressure rated up to PN16, approved for drinking water and Australian Made, and it has been proven across more than 150 Australian field sites, including long-term underground trials.

Why installers are choosing Philmac PUSH:

  • Tool-free installation – no wrenches, clamps or tightening required
  • No pipe preparation – a clean, square cut is all you need; no chamfering, no lubrication
  • Low insertion force with positive feedback when the pipe is ‘home’
  • Disassemble and reassemble – adjust alignment or reuse the fitting without damaging components
  • WaterMark certified and designed to AS/NZS 4129; conforms to AS/NZS 4020 for drinking water
  • Tested for Australian conditions – pressure, surge, thermal shock and fatigue testing in Philmac’s Adelaide laboratory, plus 150+ field sites
  • Works alongside compression fittings – fully compatible with standard Philmac compression fittings on the same PE system

The Philmac PUSH range at Valve Warehouse Australia covers 20mm to 63mm metric PE pipe:

Philmac PUSH fittings are designed to be used in a variety of applications involving the connection of metric pressure polyethylene pipe. They are not suitable for use in compressed air applications or positive displacement pumps where the line pressure drops to zero between cycles. For such applications, Philmac recommends Philmac EasyLOK fittings, also available in this collection.

What are push-fit poly fittings?

Push-fit poly fittings join polyethylene (PE) pipe without tools, tightening, glue or heat. The pipe is pushed into a pre-assembled fitting until it reaches an internal stop; a grip ring locks the pipe in place and an O-ring seals it. Philmac PUSH is Philmac’s Australian Made push-fit system for 20mm to 63mm metric PE pressure pipe – cut the pipe square, push it to the stop and the connection is made.

What is the difference between Philmac PUSH, 3G metric compression and rural poly fittings?

All three are Philmac polypropylene fittings for poly pipe – the difference is how the joint is made and the pipe they suit. Philmac PUSH is a tool-free push-fit for 20–63mm metric PE pipe: push the pipe to the internal stop and it is sealed and gripped, with nothing to tighten. Philmac 3G metric compression fittings join the same metric PE pipe using Philmac’s Slide & Tighten compression method, where the nut is tightened to make the joint. Philmac Rural fittings are compression fittings tailored to rural and agricultural pipework – connecting pipes, risers and float valves on farms and remote properties (see Rural Poly Fittings below). Philmac PUSH and compression fittings can be used together on the same PE system, so you can choose PUSH where speed and access matter most. Browse our full Philmac range.

Do Philmac PUSH fittings need tools or pipe preparation?

No. Cut the PE pipe square, make sure the end is clean and undamaged, and push it into the fitting until you feel it hit the internal stop. No chamfering, no lubricant and no tightening are required. The only tool you might ever need is a standard wrench to loosen the nut if you want to disassemble the fitting.

Can Philmac PUSH push-fit fittings be disassembled and reused?

Yes. Loosen the nut and the internal components release so the pipe can be removed. Refit the O-ring, spacer, grip ring and split ring in sequence, hand-tighten the nut back to the flange, and the fitting is ready to use again – handy for correcting alignment or reconfiguring a line. Philmac’s installation guide covers the full eight-step reassembly.

Can I use Philmac PUSH fittings for compressed air or on a pump?

Philmac PUSH fittings are designed for metric pressure polyethylene pipe in cold water applications. They are not suitable for compressed air, or for positive displacement pumps where the line pressure drops to zero between cycles. For those applications Philmac recommends Philmac EasyLOK fittings, which are also available in our poly pipe fittings range.

What are the benefits of Polypropylene in Plumbing & Irrigation?

This Australian Standard, AS/NZS 3500, specifies the performance requirements for materials and products, and design and installation of roof drainage systems, surface drainage systems and subsoil drainage systems. It forms the basis of the plumbing guidelines found in Australia’s National Construction Code. Adherence means your plumbing has all been carried out by a license plumber who certifies compliance with the Code.

AS 3688 Water Supply – Metallic Fittings and End Connectors

This Australian Standard, AS 3688, specifies requirements for metallic body pipe fittings and connectors for use with copper tubes and stainless steel pipes and tubes and adaptor fittings for connection to other pipe materials in water supply and gas systems where the normal working temperature does not exceed 95°C, and where the maximum operating pressure does not exceed 1.4MPa.

AS/NZS 4020 Testing of Products for Use in Contact with Drinking Water

This Australian Standard, AS/NZS 4020, specifies requirements for the suitability of products for use in contact with drinking water and defines test methods for evaluating their effect on the quality of the water.
